Many places probably come to mind when you think of romantic getaways across Europe. But if you’re looking for somewhere new to explore that’s less mainstream and, in our opinion, extremely underrated, here are three European destinations you may have looked over when searching for your next romantic getaway.

The Canary Islands

 

There’s a reason these islands are nicknamed the “Hawaii of Europe.” Much like Hawaii, the Canary Islands are ideal for relaxation, adventure, or a mixture of the two. They’re perfect for couples looking for European charm and jaw-dropping beauty, whether that be from the summit of a hike or the comforts of a poolside lounge chair.

 

Located just 67 miles off the coast of Africa, these islands are part of Spain and beloved as a year-round popular holiday spot for its subtropical climate and beautiful beaches.

Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, is home to captivating volcanic landscapes, fantastic hiking (like Mt. Teide, Spain’s highest peak), and many coastal choices for luxury romantic resorts. The island’s main port, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, mixes the charm of a historic seaside town with the amenities of a modern city, like Spain’s next-level nightlife scene.

The island of Lanzarote is a less-developed, more laid-back alternative to Tenerife. It also features volcanic, Mars-like landscapes, mixing the colors of its red desert-like rock with black volcanic sands and the azure blues of the Atlantic.
